Due to the negative effects of Brexit on the forestry and timber cluster in Baden-Württemberg, a package of measures has been developed to help mitigate some of these problems. Model projects in innovative, climate-friendly, hybrid timber construction are being initiated with the aim of encouraging a relevant technology transfer in the key networks of the regional and supra-regional (BW-UK) value chain in the construction sector.
To achieve this, the BW-UK specialist advisory service is being established. This advisory service will analyse the specific barriers to, and clearly outline recommended solutions for, market access to the UK for all SMEs in Baden-Württemberg. The results of the model projects will be specifically publicised in the UK timber construction sector and presented at a specialist conference.
There are plans to collaborate with the Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) representative office in London, which opened at the end of 2021. This package of measures is designed to help contribute to the restructuring of bilateral relations in line with the state government’s objectives.

The “BW UK” (Baden-Württemberg United Kingdom) project is an initiative aimed at supporting companies from the federal state of Baden-Württemberg to tap into the British market.
Here you will find a structured overview of this project, including its objectives, activities and target groups:
The BW UK project was launched to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Baden-Württemberg access the UK market and strengthen their international competitiveness. In view of the changes in the trading environment following Brexit, it is more important than ever for companies to find suitable partners and resources.
Advising companies from Baden-Württemberg in the timber industry on entering the British market and developing new business opportunities.
Promoting networking between companies in Baden-Württemberg and the UK in order to establish long-term partnerships.
Providing information on market conditions, legal frameworks and cultural differences to facilitate exports and business development.
Special support for companies that have little or no experience of exporting to the UK.
on topics such as legal requirements, customs regulations, marketing strategies and cultural nuances in the UK business environment.
Development of a platform to enable companies in Baden-Württemberg to establish contact with potential business partners in the UK.
Development of guidelines and digital content designed to promote knowledge sharing among companies and raise awareness in the United Kingdom of innovative products from Baden-Württemberg.
As the central organisation for the internationalisation of companies in Baden-Württemberg, we are collaborating with bw-i on the project and sharing our expertise and networks.
Collaboration with relevant associations to take into account industry-specific needs and requirements.
The expectation is that the project, when concluded, will lead to an increase in the level of exports from companies in Baden-Württemberg to the UK.
Improvement of the market positioning and innovative strength of participating companies.
Establishing contacts for business relationships between Baden-Württemberg and UK companies.
The BW UK project offers comprehensive advisory support to small and medium-sized enterprises in Baden-Württemberg that wish to expand their operations in the United Kingdom. This specialist advice will help them understand the challenges of the UK market and tap into new business opportunities.
